Many of us now wear contact lenses on a daily basis; this is all the more reason to take extreme precautions when caring for your lenses. Without proper care you could end up with an unwanted eye infection, which will not only cause discomfort but will also mean you will have make a few appointments with your optician in order to heal the problem.

Soft contact lenses of course require a lot more care than disposable contact lenses, as they are required to be re-used on a daily basis. This is where the many solutions and contact lens boxes come in.

Both are available from supermarkets and drug stores and both will allow you to keep your new contact lenses in tip top condition at all times.

It is however important to consult your eye doctor and optician prior to purchasing contact care, as using the wrong solution will almost always result in damage to the lens. This will not only cause you more expense it will also cause irritation and discomfort to your eyes.

Make sure you get your eye doctor to explain the exact eye care routine you should be carrying out step by step.

The basics of soft contact lens care requires the contact lens wearer to clean, rinse and disinfect the lenses every night and always after each wear.

You should always wash your hands thoroughly prior to beginning these steps as, if not, you may transfer either dirt or germs into your eye. Try to avoid moisturising soaps as these are not good for the lenses and will cause them to dry out and become unusable.

Once you have washed your hands always dry them with a lint free towel. Only once these steps have begun can you begin caring for your lenses properly.
